A Slight Delay

Backers, we're sorry to report that we've had a slight production delay that will bump fulfillment of the physical rewards back by about a month. We made a few improvements to the product design, including sourcing a new wood for the bricks - and unfortunately that bumps us into the holiday season by the time these reach our warehouses.

You can now expect to receive the Beloved Editions of the game by January 2019, rather than December 2018 as we originally expected.

We've been seeing how much everyone is enjoying the digital edition, and it's been heartwarming to say the least. It makes us all the more eager to get the full printed product into your hands, but we want to get this thing right. We're happy to say the final version will be even more beautiful than the print proof we shared last month.

You have all been so patient and supportive during this campaign and the long wait after. We can't thank you enough. 💖

In Better News...

We ran a special Star Crossed wide con at Big Bad Con this October, and it was a big hit! Twenty players showed up to play ten simultaneous games of Star Crossed, and we had ten incredible stories of romance, from the sweetest to the steamiest to the most heartbreaking.

I live for these reactions.
I live for these reactions.

If you haven't played in a wide con, it's great fun: there were a set of 30 character prompts ("Sensitive Space Janitor" "Stoic Chief of Security" "Disgraced Former Kill-Bot" etc), a fun match-up game, and one shared setting that all the concurrent sessions took place in: Space Station Fobolex, a hub of culture, politics, trade, and mystery in the vacuum of space. Whatever happened in one session impacted all the others!

Unspoken lust at the zero-G rodeo.

Desperate flight from a betrothal that holds the key to galactic peace.

Personal compromises in the struggle for robotic liberation.

Emotional tensegrity experiments gone terribly right.

It was so amazing!! Best of all: we're going to put together the instructions and prompts for Space Station Fobolex and share them with you. It's the least we can do to make up for our unexpected delay, and we think you'll really enjoy it. This game can hold up to ten pairs of players, but would probably be a satisfying experience for even two or three pairs. Can't wait to share it with you!

Space Station Fobolex, Coming Soon!

Thank you to everyone who came to play Space Station Fobolex at Big Bad Con. It was a wild experiment and we were delighted to have you along for the ride. BBC was super fun in general, thanks largely to all the Star Crossed fans and backers who said hello 💖. You are all seriously the best.

The Print Proof is Here and it is Beautiful

We looked it over, requested a few small changes (like adjusting the box height), and... production will continue on schedule! That's what you really want to know, right? Showing off the pictures is really for my enjoyment.

Also: those are stand-in blocks. I would never give you pine blocks, dear backers. Never pine.

XOXO was Awesome

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the tabletop room. I was overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of all attendees, whether they had heard of Star Crossed or not! Folks with little to no roleplaying experience were sitting down to play without any carnival barking on my part. Anyone who does that is my new favourite person.

Speaking of favourite people, shout out to superfan Darold Ross, who stepped in to help me facilitate games during a massive rush. You rock!

The lighting in the tabletop room was so good. Not for pictures, just like... for me, as a person.

See you at Big Bad Con!

Big Bad Con is always a blast, and this year Steve and I, with the help of Star Crossed editor Karen Twelves and The One Shot Network's James D'Amato, are going to be running Space Station Fobolex, a ten-table Star Crossed scenario Jason and I developed about an interstellar rom-com where anything can happen and everything will probably go wrong. (In the fiction, I mean.)

We'll also be selling Bully Pulpit merch at the show, with our friends at Heart of the Deernicorn, in the dealer room. Including a very special piece of merchandise I can't tell you about yet.

So watch for the next update.

Printers, Pins, Appearances, Plans, and Edu-tainment!
over 5 years ago – Tue, Aug 21, 2018 at 11:16:36 PM

That's Right!

The files for the physical version of Star Crossed (the box, the tower, the booklet, and the character sheet pads) are safe in the hands of our friends at GPI. We're on track to ship to our warehouses in November, and from there to fulfill them to you! We'll keep you updated on any changes or delays, but right now it looks like we're going to nail this Kickstarter on spec and on schedule! Fingers crossed.

Star Crossed at XOXO Fest

A fitting name, don't you think?
A fitting name, don't you think?

Big news, friends: I just got invited to run Star Crossed at XOXO Fest, an experimental festival for independent artists and creators who work on the internet. As a doer of good tweets who got my writing start thoroughly embarrassing myself on Grouvee, it couldn't be a better fit. Unfortunately registration has closed, but if you're in Portland, Oregon the weekend of September 6th, I hope to see you!

Big Bad Plans

The month after XOXO, we'll be at Big Bad Con, in Walnut Creek, California from October 11 to 14. To follow up last year's Night Witches Wide Con, we've got something special planned...

Space Station Fobolex
Space Station Fobolex

Space Station Fobolex is an interstellar waypoint, a crossroads of weird aliens with even weirder cultures. Into this maelstrom, a new force will arise – a force perhaps unfamiliar to the hardscrabble crew and visitors to Space Station Fobolex. A force called… love.

Ten tables! Twenty players! All playing Star Crossed in the most spectacular conglomeration of awkward, beautiful, tragic romances ever seen in this sector! If you'll be at BBC, you won't want to miss it.

PINS :D

PINS
PINS

Apparently we have to wait to send these out with your complete packages including the game but ahhhh look a them! So pretty! I want everyone in the world to have a shiny friend like this on their cool denim jacket or messenger bag. Or wherever. Huge thanks to our partners Pin Pros Plus for doing such a great job. We're pleased as punch.

Oh, and Jess is almost done her final illustration. We have special plans for it.

Wanna Learn Something?

The 2018 Living Games Conference information hub is live, and that means you can now see the archived videos of all the keynotes, panels, and roundtable discussions from the conference.

That means you can see Alex speaking about:
Playing a Satisfying Romance in Larp
Consent and Safety in Larp Communities
Spirituality and Transformational Roleplaying, and
Queer Game Design Principles and Practice

And check out Jason presenting:
The Information Missile Defense System,
Preserving Game Design History, and
The Role-Playing Diaspora.

The rest of the videos are amazing, too! Have a look and learn some cool stuff about the cutting edge of live action gaming.

Whew, what a long update! Thanks for reading this far, friend. Can't wait to share even more exciting news. We'll keep you posted.
